Big Kahuna’s Hosts the 2024 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

Big Kahuna’s

Featured

June 23, 2024 — Big Kahuna’s Water Parks in Florida and New Jersey both hosted the 2024 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson Event. Following Water Safety Month in May, this global event provides families and individuals with the opportunity to learn swimming skills in a safe and fun environment.

Swimming Lessons For All

At Big Kahuna’s Water Parks, our teams are committed to water safety. This year, both our Destin, Florida and West Berlin, New Jersey locations proudly hosted the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL), a globally celebrated event dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of teaching kids to swim. The 15th Anniversary of the WLSL, held on June 20th, 2024, was an incredible success, welcoming families, the media, and communities united in the mission to prevent drowning and improve quality of life.

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ is not just an event; it’s a powerful movement. Created to build awareness and generate local and national media attention, WLSL emphasizes the critical importance of swimming lessons as a fundamental life-saving skill. The event brings together numerous organizations and individual aquatic facilities worldwide, highlighting the collective passion for this essential cause. With a unified message that swimming lessons save lives, WLSL underscores the significance of water safety education.

The Impact of WLSL at Big Kahuna’s

Hosting the WLSL at Big Kahuna’s Water Parks was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our dedication to community safety and fun. Families gathered in both Destin and West Berlin to participate in this massive swim lesson, learning vital water safety skills while enjoying the exhilarating atmosphere of our water parks. The event perfectly captured the essence of WLSL’s mission: teaching swimming skills to reduce the risk of drowning by 88% in children aged 1-4, as supported by research from the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

Highlights From the Event

At Big Kahuna’s, the WLSL event was filled with enthusiasm and energy. Certified instructors led the swim lessons, focusing on key water safety messages and practical swimming techniques. The event was designed to be both educational and fun, ensuring that participants left with newfound skills and confidence in the water. The vibrant settings of our water parks added to the excitement, making it a memorable experience for all attendees.

In addition to the swim lessons, the event featured engaging activities and interactive sessions for both kids and parents. Our team ensured that every participant, regardless of their swimming ability, felt included and motivated to learn. The presence of certified lifeguards and the status of our parks as Certified Autism Centers further reinforced our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Why Swimming Lessons Matter

Drowning remains one of the top five causes of death for children aged 1-14 in many countries, according to the World Health Organization. The WLSL event at Big Kahuna’s served as a stark reminder of the importance of swimming lessons in preventing such tragedies. Learning to swim is not just a recreational skill; it’s a critical layer of protection against drowning.

The WLSL event aimed to educate parents on the silent and swift nature of drowning, emphasizing that it can occur in as little as 20-60 seconds. Unlike dramatic portrayals on TV, real-life drowning incidents are often quick and quiet. By enrolling children in swimming lessons and practicing vigilant supervision, parents can significantly reduce the risk of drowning.

The thousands of participants across our Destin and West Berlin locations joined a global network of families and organizations dedicated to water safety. Together, we can make a significant impact, driving home the message that swimming lessons are as essential as wearing a helmet when riding a bike or a seat belt in a car.

As we look forward to more events like the WLSL, we remain committed to promoting water safety and providing an enjoyable, secure environment for all our guests. Big Kahuna’s Water Parks are more than just a place for fun; they are a community hub where safety, education, and entertainment come together
